Landau is a common jewish last name.

Entering this term in the search engine I was looking for an article about Lev Davidovich Landau. He was a prominent soviet physicist, active mainly in the field of solid state physics, and the founder of Landau institute in Moscow. I didn't expect to find the etimology of his name.

Many jewish names originate in towns and villages accross Europe, it is a pleasure to find one more.
