Talk:Lancaster County Convention Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is extremely one-sided. It fails to mention the public dissent and division caused by this project. Nor does it discuss the many other issues that have clouded this project and it history, including but not limited to:

- Risk to taxpayers

- "Private" up-front investment of $11 million toward a $170 million "private-public partnership"

- The reasoning behind dramatic increases in cost and floor space since the project was proposed

- Coercion and threats by the PSP against the LCCCA

- Multiple changes to State law to benefit this project

- Demolition of a building on the National Register of Historic Places

- Partial demolition of historic buildings, including Thaddeus Stevens' home

This sounds very much like a promotional piece written by one of the groups behind the project. Bias does not suit Wikipedia.

Then edit it under a new heading in the article. --81.206.18.44 13:04, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] In the eye of the beholder

If you can contribute some worthy info to this article, go ahead. However, some of your comments are mere opinion, hearsay, or whining. Contribute what info you can provide references for, and not info that is biased. Some of the Lancaster Online articles referring to the LCCC are biased. I wrote most of the info that is on this page as to provide info on the actual building and the project, not to be a source of contention among Lancaster residents. Stay on topic, let us not use this as a venue for argument. KnoxSGT 13:38, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Response

I have corrected some of the figures in this article. For example, the current anticipated cost is $167,995,296 according to the LCCCA's presentation dated December 13-14, 2006 (available at [1] as the result of an RTK request); the Lancaster newspapers have been reporting $170.5 million as the current figure (which is the figure I posted). I also added a few milestones, with links to documents on the Penn Square Partners web site as verification.

This topic includes the fact that this project IS a source of contention among Lancaster residents. The local media has repeatedly failed to accurately report the depth and breadth of this opposition, consequently MOST online references ARE biased. For example, a current township supervisor who is now a candidate for County Commissioner reports that 90% percent of his township constituents oppose ANY public funding for this type of project. Of course, I can't link to something that is not posted online elsewhere.

It's hard to provide references when the local media has a significant financial interest in the project. I can link to either the PSP or LCCCA web site, or occasionally to the few related original documents which are posted elsewhere.

I'll keep my opinions to the discussion page. I will try to provide a link to verify any statements I post on the main page.

[edit] What references were used to make these statements?

For example, the opening paragraph states, "When the Center is finished, it will be the tallest building in Lancaster city, surpassing the W.W. Griest Building." Yet at the LCCCA board meeting of January 31, 2007, one of the project developers clearly stated that the height of the proposed hotel tower would be APPROACHING the height of the Griest Building?

10 March 2007: Corrected information in the first paragraph, including links to sources that verify these statements.
