Lansing Capitals

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lansing Capitals were an expansion team for the 2006 International Basketball League season. They originally were slated to play their home games at the Aim High Sports facility at the Capital Centre, in Dimondale, Michigan, southwest of Lansing. Instead, they ended up playing their games at the Walter French Academy, at 1900 S Cedar St in Lansing. The Capitals were originally owned by the Ernst family from nearby Charlotte, Michigan, but on June 6, 2006, the IBL announced that the league was assuming control of the team, in order to be able to complete the season. Despite these ownership troubles, the IBL remains committed to a team in Lansing for the 2007 season. According to the league, there are three groups interested in owning the Lansing franchise.

The Capitals' inaugural season ended with a record of 5 wins and 17 losses, finishing 10th out of 12 teams in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals will play a part-time schedule in 2007 before returning to full-time action in 2008.
