Langtoft, Lincolnshire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Langtoft is a village in Lincolnshire on the A15 road, about ten miles north of Peterborough and about 8 miles east of Stamford, Lincolnshire on the edge of The Fens.
Langtoft Primary School has about 210 children [1] and its own wind turbine.
The Church of St Michael and All Angels has a 700 year history, but is unusual in that it has no stained glass windows. It has undergone considerable restoration work involving new roofs, plumbing and a bell. The work started in 1994 and finished in 2004.
In the church grounds is Langtoft's war memorial to those who fought in World_War_I and World_War_II.
It has this inscription: [2]
βTo the memory of those who fell in the Great War 1914-1918 and World War 1939-1945. Greater love hath no man than this. That he lay down his life for his friends. β John XV.β
The Waggon and Horses public house is on the side of the main road (the A15); the original was built sometime in the 19th century and burned down in 1888 but was rebuilt.
Langtoft has grown in the last 10 years as new housing estates have been built. It has a general store with a post office, two hairdressers, and a car salesroom and many more businesses.
The small village hall hosts many Langtoft Players' shows and other events. Since 2002 and the Queen's Golden Jubilee it has had a flag pole.
