The Langshan or German Langshan is a German breed of chicken developed from the Chinese Croad Langshan. It is a large and heavy bird with remarkable contours.

The Langshan is a German breeding product that was created in the beginning of the twentieth century. It was created by crossing Croad Langshans with Minorcas and Plymouth Rocks. The German breeders imagined a good egg-laying chicken, that would have non-feathered legs (opposed to the Croad Langshan). The creation of Langshans almost meant the end of the Croad Langshan in Germany.

The 'German' Langshan is a large, heavy chicken: roosters weigh about 4 kilograms. The chickens have a remarkably contoured back and a relatively small tail. The head is relatively small.

The Langshan is bred in only a few colors: black, white and blue. Some breeders have started breeding Langshans in a striped pattern.
[edit] Behaviour
Langshans are strong, vital chickens that grow up fast. They lay cream-colored eggs which are quite large. Because of their heavy weight, they don't fly much. Mutually the chickens are tolerant. They can be made tame without much difficulty.
