The Lander Configurations are a five piece ambient post-rock band from Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, consisting of four musicians and one animator/projectionist.
Formed in late 2003, the band underwent a number of line-up changes before playing its inaugural show in February 2006.
The Lander Configurations perform music that can be described as[weasel words] cinematic soundscapes that range from ambient minimalism to climatic walls of sound. The repertoire of the band consists of about half instrumental songs and half songs with singing.
The band's live show is based around combining music with vision and usually contains colourful projections and animations; the band's aim is to create a full sensory experience for the audience.
The Lander Configurations draw comparisons[citation needed] to such international contemporary bands as Sigur ros, Mogwai, Mono, and Explosions in the sky.
