Muskegon High School (Muskegon, Michigan) Rockford High School (Rockford, Michigan) Muskegon and Rockford are longtime rivals that only began playing in the same division (O-K Red) in 2007. The team's first division matchup received significant national coverage, having been named the 'Game of the Week' by USA Today, which provided the WMRR-FM 101.7 broadcast of the game online via its website. NFL Films also produced an hour-long documentary on the game and the rivalry, which premiered on Versus on 2007-11-01. The rivalry game regularly draws crowds of 7,000 or more spectators. [3][4][5][6]
Rock Hill High School (Rock Hill, South Carolina) Northwestern High School (Rock Hill, South Carolina) 22-21-0 1964 One of the Carolinas' biggest high school rivalries, Rock Hill vs. Northwestern is considered one of the country's top high school football rivalries by Sporting News and StudentSports.com. The annual rivalry game was the first in the area to have its video broadcast live over the internet. The audio of the game has also been broadcast over the internet by the Great American Rivalry Series. [7][1][2][8][9]
Abraham Lincoln High School (San Jose, California) San Jose High Academy 38-24-0 1943 The annual rivalry game between the two schools, known as the "Big Bone Game," is the only Thanksgiving-Day high school football rivalry game that is held west of Missouri. San Jose and Lincoln are so dedicated to playing the rivalry game on Thanksgiving that Lincoln once passed up a postseason playoff bid so that it could play the Big Bone Game on Thanksgiving. The first game between the schools occurred on Armistice Day in 1943. The game derives its moniker from the trophy that is passed to the winner of each year's game—a cow femur that was found by Lincoln student Dean Wendt in his uncle's butcher shop. The rivalry has been recognized as one of the most unique and intense in the country by Sporting News and StudentSports.com. [1][2][10]
Permian High School (Odessa, Texas) Lee High School (Midland, Texas) 29-19-1 1961 The Permian-Lee rivalry is featured in the H. G. Bissinger book Friday Night Lights and in the movie and the TV series of the same name. The rivalry and the football culture of the Midland-Odessa metropolitan area has also been featured in the documentary, Friday Nights in America. The 2004 matchup between the schools is believed to be the first live telecast of a regular-season high school football game in Texas. The local NBC affiliate paid $4,500 to each of the two schools for broadcast rights to the game. The station pre-empted the National League baseball playoff game scheduled to be broadcast in order to carry the rivalry game. [1][11][12][13][14][15]
