==Requested move==

The term "tribe" as used by Westerners to describe African ethnic groups is inappropriate. It connotes "primitive" and other pejorative racial ideas. This is true in spite of the fact that some Africans continue to use the word "tribe" when communicating in English, which is not their mother tongue. They are using it in their own context without the "pejorative" baggage that the word has when used by Westerners. The complete explanation is at: 'Talking About Tribe," <http://www.africaaction.org/bp/ethall.htm>. I couldn't figure out at first how to change the name of "Lamba (tribe)" so I tried unsuccessfully to create a new "Lamba" article and proceeded to screw things up.Kjmorris (talk) 00:42, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Comment. Just a request for clarification: There is currently an article at Lamba which acts as a disambiguation page, providing links to articles covering various uses of the word "Lamba". This article can only be moved to Lamba if it is the primary usage, but you don't appear to be suggesting that is the case. Would it possible for you to clarify? --Lox (t,c) 19:44, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment In cases like this, where the single word might refer to the language, the people, or any number of other things (like German or Chinese), either the word is put into the plural (Germans) or the term "people" is added where the word's plural form doesn't exist or isn't in common usage (Chinese people). Here, I'd suggest Lamba people. cab (talk) 06:56, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment Thanks very much for both very helpful comments. I had fogotten about the Lamba disambiguation page and, no, I can't pre-empt any of the other uses of the word "Lamba" as being less significant than the one that I am addressing. I think that the simplest and most straightforward way to go is simply to add an "s" and make it plural. I'll try to be consistent with other articles that I am editing under the "Ethnic Groups in Togo" category, e.g. the article that I am editing entitled "Losso" should probably be re-named "Lossos" by going to the "Move" tab the same as I will do to convert "Lamba (tribe)" to "Lambas." I will be adding text and references to the "Lambas" article between now and the end of the month. Thanks again. Kjmorris 76.21.253.118 (talk) 01:22, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment I have removed the move request template, as this issue seems to be worked out in a satisfactory way. If you need any further move-related assistance, please do not hesitate to let me know. -GTBacchus(talk) 19:15, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
