Lambert & Butler is currently the UK's leading cigarette brand[citation needed]. They are available in King Size and the longer version Superking Size, in packs of 10's and 20's. They come in several different types including Silver (Full strength), Gold (formerly Lights), Menthol (green packets) and the newer Smooth (blue packs) which is in between Silver and Gold strength wise. Lambert & Butler, or L&B as they are known across Europe (due to Imperial Tobacco not owning the copyright on the original name) are usually cheaper in price than the rival cigarette brands.
In 2005, Imperial Tobacco launched the special edition Celebration Pack, in which the design of the packet was changed, from the striped box it had used since 1987 (which was progressed from a previous brushed aluminium effect design). In April 2006, the company decided to make the "enhanced pack design" permanent. [1]
In April 2007 a holographic pack design was launched as the "Premier Edition" to mark "10 years as the UK's number 1 brand".
[edit] Advertising
Before the ban on advertising was introduced into the UK, advertisements for Lambert & Butler featured pictures of two men, one of whom was dressed as a butler. Lambert would ask the butler something, and the butler would always have a witty response. For example, Lambert says "Got a light, Butler?" to which the butler replies "Very funny Sir." while holding a lamp.
