Lamb Chop's Play-Along

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lamb Chop's Play-Along is a children's television show that was shown on PBS in the United States from 1992 to 1997, with reruns airing from fall 1997-2001. 200 episodes of the show were produced. It was created and hosted by puppeteer Shari Lewis, and featured her puppet character Lamb Chop. Appropriately, Lamb Chop was a sheep; other characters were puppets of other farm animals, including Charlie Horse and Hush Puppy. WTTW jointly distributed it with Paragon Entertainment Corporation to PBS stations across the country. The rights to the show are currently owned by Entertainment Rights through its control of Classic Media. Reruns of the first 26 episodes have recently begun to be broadcast on qubo's digital channel, which is partially owned by Classic Media.

[edit] Theme Song

The opening theme song was "It's Lamb Chop's Play-Along", written by veteran Hollywood composer Bob Golden. Other songs were written by Square One TV songwriter, John Rodby. The ending theme was more memorable, as the children and puppets sang "The Song That Never Ends", while Lewis frantically and comically attempted to stop them. They are singing it over and over until the kids come and circle Shari, and then go get Lamb Chop, Charlie Horse, and Hush Puppy. Shari tells them that they should sing the song far away from her. They stop for a second but are told to keep walking. The song fades out, and Shari feels like she can relax. She spoke too soon, as Charlie Horse humorously reappears and starts singing again. But Shari grabs him by the nose and tells him to go away, twice. He decides to leave, but Shari is trying to say one more thing, to not slam the door, but before she can finish the sentence, the door is slammed shut. Shari says the last word, "...door." and the show ends.

An instrumental version of the show's theme song was used for a most recent show of Mallory Lewis and Lamb Chop.
