Lamar Advertising Company

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lamar Advertising Company (NASDAQLAMR), based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a provider of billboards, transit advertising, and highway logo signs. Founded in 1902, it has been the largest outdoor advertising company in the United States and Puerto Rico since 1999.

On April 8, 2008, Lamar sued the City of Pittsburgh's Council President Doug Shields and four fellow councilmen, according to a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article. The lawsuit was filed in reaction to a City Council investigation into a billboard approval without the public hearings and votes typically required. Larmar claims that the five men "developed a plot, under the auspices of their elected office."

The following day, the Post-Gazette revealed that a Lamar executive gave gifts to development officials.
