Lakeway is a city in Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,002 at the 2000 census; it was 8,852 in the 2005 census estimate. The city is located near Lake Travis.

Lakeway is located at [3], 16 miles (26 km) west of Austin.
(30.365307, -97.976154)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.1 square miles (15.7 km²), of which, 5.8 square miles (15.0 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (4.45%) is water.
The town of Lakeway began with the construction of a 48-room hotel, the Lakeway Inn. Ground was broken October 1962 and the grand opening was July 12, 1963. Honored guests included Lady Bird Johnson and Texas Governor John Connally.[citation needed]

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 8,002 people, 3,124 households, and 2,496 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,379.4 people per square mile (532.7/km²). There were 3,501 housing units at an average density of 603.5/sq mi (233.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.39% White, 0.80% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.86% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.21% of the population.
There were 3,124 households out of which 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.1% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.1% were non-families. 16.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.84.
In the city the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 3.5% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $86,862, and the median income for a family was $94,266. Males had a median income of $70,211 versus $38,879 for females. The per capita income for the city was $45,765. About 1.8% of families and 3.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.0% of those under age 18 and 3.3% of those age 65 or over.
