Lakeview Heights, British Columbia

Lakeview Heights is a rural community within Electoral Area Westside - unincorporated, British Columbia Canada governed by the Regional District of Central Okanagan. Lakeview Heights is on the west side of Okanagan Lake, across the lake from Kelowna. Lakeview Heights is home to the centrally located Mount Boucherie Secondary Schoolalong with the Westsides' Mount Bouceherie Multiplex Centre housing the Mount Boucherie Community Centre, Jim Lind Arena, home to the BCHL team the Westside Warriors, and future Royal LePage Place. For smaller venue, there is the standalone Lakeview Heights Community Hall.

Residents representation is through the Lakeview Heights Community Association, a resident/member operated grassroots non-profit Special Interest Group. Member volunteers monitor and lobby government and are active participants in local Public Advisory Councils and Committees. Many Members volunteer their time and attend Community Open Houses, Government Information events, Community Issue Forums, and many participate and represent the LHCA on several Public Advisory Committees.

Lakeview Heights is home to many orchards, riding stables, and vineyards and several wineries producing world-class award winning wines. There are many sports fields, tennis courts, parks and accesses to Okanagan Lake. Lakeview Heights is best known for the many panoramic views of surrounding areas and communities. The Lakeview Irrigation District is the provider of local water needs.

Lakeview Heights with the many views of Okanagan Lake is often used by tourists to monitor and report on the travels of North America's friendliest inland sea monster; Ogopogo.

Within Lakeview Heights lay Mount Boucherie Mountain. Mount Boucherie is well known for the breath-taking views as seen from the Eain Lamont Park on the slopes of Mount Boucherie, an ancient and extinct volcano.

Lakeview Heights, part of Electoral Area Westside, and Westside neighbouring communities with provincial government support created the Westside Governance Restructure Studycommittee and are proceeding with a process to examine a solution to local governance. Solutions include:

    • Incorporation as a standalone municipality
    • a merger through boundary extension by Kelowna

A referendum is expected in early 2007
