Lakeport, New Hampshire

Lakeport is a village in the city of Laconia in Belknap County, New Hampshire, in the United States. The village is centered around a power dam on the short river channel between Paugus Bay (an arm of Lake Winnipesaukee) to the north, and Opechee Bay to the south. Lakeport lies approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of downtown Laconia.
During the summer months the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad stops at the Lakeport train station and takes travelers either south to Tilton or north to Weirs Beach and Meredith.
Several excellent restaurants are located in Lakeport, including Fratello's Ristorante (Italian cuisine), CJ Avery's (steaks), and The O (an upscale restaurant located at Lake Opechee Inn and Spa). Once a very busy epicenter for entertainment, now the business area of Lakeport consists of a couple of convenience stores, a small post office, a nail salon, a tattoo parlor, and several pawn shops. Over the past few years projects to revitalize the area have included redesign of the main intersection, replacement of the Lakeport Bridge, new plantings and foot bridges for pedestrians. Such projects have encouraged new business growth and investment to include lodging, dinning, and various other services.
Laconia residents can buy a pass to go to the private Bond Beach, a very clean swimming area on Lake Opechee. There are also several boat launches and marinas on the Paugus Bay side of Lakeport.
