Lake Washington High School, is one of four high schools in the Lake Washington School District, with an enrollment of approximately 1143 students.[1] It is in the Rose Hill neighborhood of Kirkland, Washington.
The school building was constructed in 1949 and opened in January, 1950[2] and it was extensively expanded in the 1990's. The alternative 90-student Northstar Junior High is on the same campus, in separate buildings. Lake Washington High School's colors are purple and white and the mascot is the Kangaroo . It is one of only two High Schools in the United States to have a kangaroo mascot. The other one being Killeen High School in Killeen, Texas. Melbourne, Australia also has a high school with a kangaroo mascot.
Ken Hutcherson's Antioch Bible Church, which has drawn criticism from the teachers' union because of the church's opposition to gay rights, rents space at the high school.[3]
