At full capacity the lake holds 379 850 megalitres, water from Lake Somerset is released to the downstream Lake Wivenhoe as required.
The lake is a popular fishing destination, with fish species caught including the Australian bass, golden perch, silver perch, Mary River cod, snub nosed gar, lungfish and saratoga[2].
