[edit] Size

Attendance was approximately 1800 students in the 2007-2008 school year, an increase of about 200 from the previous year. Attendance is projected to grow further due to the high population influx in the southern part of the county. The school was built in 2002 to relieve overcrowding at South Iredell High School, but is now experiencing overcrowding itself. The school system approved a 20-classroom Freshman Academy expansion project in December, 2005, intended to accommodate a projected enrollment of 1800 students. The Freshman Academy expansion project was completed during the end of the first semester of the 2006-2007 school year and opened for the 2007-2008 year. The school also occupies two "mega-unit" trailers consisting of several classrooms each, in addition to the new wing due to overcrowding.

[edit] Athletics

The Lake Norman men's soccer team won the N.C. High School Athletic Association state 3-A boys soccer championship over defending state champion Jacksonville High School during the Fall 2006 season, and repeated as champions over Wilson Fike during the Fall 2007 season.
