Lake Lothing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lake Lothing is a saltwater lake that separates South Lowestoft from North Lowestoft within the county of Suffolk in the United Kingdom. This stretch of water is connected to the North Sea through Lowestoft Harbour and connects to Oulton Broad, part of the Norfolk Broads national park via Mutford Lock. Three bridges cross Lake Lothing, these being Lowestoft Bascule Bridge which takes the busy A12 road through Lowestoft town centre as part of the main route from Great Yarmouth to London, Oulton Broad Swing Bridge carrying the East Suffolk Line between Lowestoft railway station and Oulton Broad South railway station and Mutford Lock Road Bridge which provides a crossing for the A1117 to Beccles. The Lake is approximately 2 miles (3km) long and 150 yards (135m) wide at its widest point and just 35 yards (30m) wide at the mouth near the bascule bridge.
