The lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run, and nestled against the east side of the southern tip of Evitts Mountain. Created in 1969 and made accessible to the public in 1974, it attained a maximum depth of 74 feet near its earthen dam. It offers three public beach areas along its 9.4 mile shoreline, as well as an arguably superb fishery. The lake is named after Edward Habeeb, a local who helped initiate the development of the area.
