Lake Gibson High School is located in Lakeland, Florida, and was established in 1979. Much of the identity of LGHS mirrors that of the Florida State University Seminoles:
At the beginning of every fall semester Principal Ralph Gilchrest III introduces the years inspiratonal Motto. 07-08: "Change the World!" Past Mottos include: "Knowledge is Power, and the power is on!" "Winners Do what losers won't!".

Agriscience Department
The Lake Gibson Agriscience Department has three areas of study for students to choose from for their area of study in agriscience. We offer Agriscience Technology, Horticulture (with a certification option), and Agricultural Mechanics. We not only teach in the classroom but also have a strong involvement with outside hands on learning activities. If you like to learn outside just the traditional classroom and want to learn more about plants, animals and/or mechanics this is the major for you.
Bus Education: Academy of Finance
The Academy of Finance is a program that gives high school students an opportunity to learn about, and prepare for, careers in financial services. It is one of several model programs established to promote educational excellence by the National Academy Foundation (NAF). This partnership links the resources of business, education, government and community.
In addition to required academic high school courses, students at the Academy of Finance take one or two specialized courses per year developed in collaboration with leading educators and industry experts. These include: Economics and the World of Finance/Financial Operations, Banking and Credit/Financial Planning, English for Finance, Financial Computing, and Financial Accounting.
Bus Education: Accounting Operations
This major is for the student that is interested in pursuing a career in Accounting, Finance, Banking or other financial position. The courses in this major offer a broad foundation of knowledge and skills including double-entry accounting principles; methods of recording business transactions; preparation and analysis of various financial statements; payroll records and tax forms; accounting control systems; account and transaction analysis; inventory methods; depreciation; and the application of accounting principles to various entities.
Bus Education: Administrative Assistant
This major offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills that includes the use of technology to develop communications skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making skills. Heavy emphasis is placed on MIcrosoft Office software applications including Word, Power Point, Excel, Access, Publisher, Producer, and Movie Maker. This major is for the student that would like to pursue a career in Business Administration, Administrative Office Assistant, Data Entry Clerk, Real Estate, Entrepreneurship, Human Resources and E-Business. It is an excellent major for students preparing for college.
Bus Education: Digital Design
This major is designed to prepare students for employment as a Graphic Designer, Production Assistant, Information Technology Assistant, Digital Assistant Designer, and Multi-Media Designer. This major offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment in digital publishing positions. The content includes enhanced practical experiences in computer generated art and text, graphic design, graphic production, electrical design skills, preparation of electronic layouts and illustrations, and electronic scanning; development of specialized skills in multimedia presentations.
Bus Education: Legal Administrative Specialist
This major is designed to prepare students for employment in a legal office as a Legal Secretary or Legal Administrative Assistant. The courses in this major includes the use of technology to develop communications skills, level thinking skills, decision making skills; legal terminology; the performance of office procedures specific to the legal environment; transcription of legal documents from machine dictation; the production of quality work using advanced features of business software applications including Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.
Bus Education: Web Design Services
This major is designed to prepare students for employment as an Information Technology Assistant, HTML Coder, Web Graphic Designer, and Web Producer. This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment in Web Design Services and includes Operating System commands and Web. The students in this program are in charge of the school's Web Page.
Bus Education: International Businesses
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for entry-level management trainee positions in the international business environment. Program completers develop the appreciation, knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to work and live in a global marketplace. The single most important factor within the culture, customs, beliefs, and attitudes of that country. This program includes two years of a foreign language--either French or Spanish. Students are introduced to the concept of a global economy with attention given to economic, cultural, and political factors affecting international business. The program content includes the study of organizational structures, business management, entrepreneurship, human relations, cross-cultural communications, leadership, marketing legal agreements, trade relations, banking and finance, international economics.
Drama: Theatre Arts
The Drama/Theatre Arts Major not only promotes the development of communication, problem solving, and social skills for a career in the entertainment industry as an actor, or technician. Classes balance performance and stagecraft theory with practical, real-world applications, as students are encouraged to become involved with Lake Gibson's numerous theatre productions during each school year.
Mathematics
The Mathematics Department at LGHS desires to train students to solve "real life" problems, to communicate math with a wide audience, and to instill a sense of love for learning. The mathematics foundation will be laid for a math major at LG to be successful in their college/university courses. Math majors look forward professionally to employment in an industrial or financial firm, a government agency, or teaching in a secondary, college, or university institution.
ROTC and Military Training: Army
JROTC is a program that emphasizes "making young people better citizens". It is a program that teaches life management skills, as well as the social sciences. It teaches leadership and more importantly how to follow those in authority. This is done using a military structure but we do not actively recruit for the military and a student is under no obligation to the military whatsoever should they participate in this program.
Social Studies
The Social Studies major is designed to sharpen analytical and writing skills, to develop proper methods of research, and to gain a broad understanding of the human condition. The study of history provides a solid foundation for careers in government, law, education, and business. The history department's offerings are divided into three main categories: required courses provide general coverage in the areas of world history, American History, and government/economics, elective courses include studies in the areas of psychology, sociology, law studies and contemporary history, and Advanced Placement courses involve intensive examination of complicated subject matter including American History, European History, and the United States Government and Economics.
