Lake Afton Park occupies a 720-acre (2.9 km²) site 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Wichita, Kansas. The Park includes a 258-acre (1.0 km²) lake on land once inhabited by the Kiowa, Comanche, Wichita (tribe), Osage and Southern Cheyenne Indian tribes. Construction of Lake Afton was started in 1939 and completed in 1942, by the Works Progress Administration work force.
