[edit] Licensing
This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
[edit] Fair use Rationale for use in List of strong chess tournaments
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- It is a low resolution copy of a book cover.
- It doesn't limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the book in any way; in fact the book is long since deleted, but if it were to be reprinted, then use of the image in question would likely only encourage sales.
- The image has previously been published elsewhere on the web - see source in Summary section.
- Because of the low resolution, copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the book artwork for reasons of piracy.
- Only the front cover of the book is portrayed; no back or side portions.
- The book itself is referred to within the article.
- No free version of the image is available and therefore it is not replaceable.
