Laiyi, Pingtung
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Laiyi Township (來義鄉) lies in Pingtung County in southern Taiwan at the foot of Dawu Mountain (大吳山). Laiyi is the native home of the Paiwan Tribe whose numbers are about 60,000 mainly in southern Taiwan. Many ancient customs and religious rites are still practiced in Laiyi, which has been regarded as the traditional religious center for the Paiwan tribe.
Laiyi is scenic with many streams spanned by suspension bridges, waterfalls and cliffs and aboriginal totem sculptures. The photo above is taken from approximately the center of Laiyi looking Eastward toward Dawu Mountain shrouded in the clouds.
