Laigh Kirk

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laigh Kirk is a church in Kilmarnock, Scotland. The existing church, the third on the site, was built in 1802.[citation needed]

[edit] History

The first church on the site was built in the 1600s and replaced in 1750.[1] On 18 October 1801, falling plaster caused a stampede, killing 29 people.[2] The church was quickly torn down and the existing church was built the following year.[3]

The church's own website has an account of the history of the site and its integral involvement in both its own and Kilmarnock's history and development.[4]
