Laguna del Carbón (Spanish for Coal's lagoon) is a 105 metres (344 ft) below sea level depression located at coordinates in the Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It is the lowest point of both the Western and Southern Hemispheres, and the 7th lowest point on earth[1]
Located 54 km from the city of Puerto San Julián, it's part of the endorheic Gran Bajo de San Julián (San Julían's Great Depression) salt lake area located between the San Julián Bay and the Chico River.
As in several other locations in the Patagonia, dinosaurs' fossils have been found in the area[2][3].
