From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lafayette Tecumseh Junior High School is a junior high school on the south side of Lafayette, Indiana, across from Jefferson High School on Hyatt Drive. It is administered by the Lafayette School Corporation. Tecumseh is currently one of Indiana's Four Star Schools and is only for 7th and 8th grade students in the LSC.
[edit] History
Lafayette's school board decided in early 1956 that a second junior high school was needed to complement Sunnyside Junior High School, which had been dedicated the year before. Twenty-six acres near the Pythian Home on South 18th Street were purchased for $70,000, and a further $320,000 was appropriated for construction, which was completed in 1960. The new school was named Tecumseh Junior High School, in honor of Shawnee leader Tecumseh, and in August 2006 renamed to Lafayette Tecumseh Junior High School.
