Laekini Atoll
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Laekini Atoll is a privately-owned island in the Federated States of Micronesia. Unlike many of its surrounding neighbors, Laekini has too little land to be considered a lagoon. In 1948, it gained notoriety as a command center for the American hydrogen bomb tests in the area. Although this function ended when the island was purchased by a private party in 1974, contamination still exists in the surrounding area.
