[edit] Pianoforte

Hello Bradley, I just wanted to ask you about the piano article...so do you think it should be merged with pianoforte? For the life of me, even though I'm a pianist, I can't see any difference at all except what time period they started speaking funny! =P Could you please reply on my talk page? I'm usually straight off to editing rather than checking all the bits that I replied to...

Cheerio, Lady Nimue of the Lake 10:57, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't think pianoforte should be merged with piano, no. The piano page is really big, and doesn't need more material crammed into it. They do need better interaction between the two though. I don't think the pages relate to each other as much as they should. What I was saying about the word is that it is used a lot when talking about "historically accurate" performances, on the original instruments (or reproductions of them). I think I mentioned Malcolm Bilson on the Piano page; basically every one of his records will say "pianoforte" somewhere on the sleeve. - Rainwarrior 16:18, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
don't know what you are looking at the one appear to redirect to the other - so they are effectively the same. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 16:29, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Maybe I meant fortepiano. Or rather, maybe Nimue meant fortepiano? - Rainwarrior 16:47, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I was talking about the pianoforte...and piano... what's the difference between fortepiano and pianoforte? Lady Nimue of the Lake 07:13, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, they're both old names for the piano. These days they are used to refer to a piano constructed in the old manner: without the metal frame (which makes the sound much less heavy than a modern piano), and with a much lighter action. It really fits the style of classical music well (e.g. Haydn, and Mozart). - Rainwarrior 07:17, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Did you know that there was the symbol fp (or the other way around) in scripts to symbolise an accent? Lady Nimue of the Lake 07:18, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, there's that too. Most people just say "eff pee" for that though. I get those all the time in trombone music. - Rainwarrior 07:31, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Interesting! =) Lady Nimue of the Lake 07:34, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Howdy!

I take it from your username that you like The Mists of Avalon, yes? That was one of my favorite books in high school. Happy editing! -- Merope Talk to me/Review me 19:38, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] so what is this Grail, anyway?

Obeisances, Nimue!

Your eternally humble servant Bill doth now appear, craving your indulgence on a matter so small as to mostly escape notice...

You got a twin sister at N. Sydney High? Userboxes of Regeane and yourself are remarkably similar... talk to me here or on my own talk page, I'll be watching.

All felicitations and other joy be flowing in your general direction, Just plain Bill 14:32, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello Bill,

No, she's not my sister - she's my best friend. She offered to help me on my user page since I didn't really want one and she protested loudly - she literally just copied and pasted. Well, it is the truth!

Lady Nimue of the Lake 07:03, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Sorry - Grail? Lady Nimue of the Lake 07:03, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Links added to David Eddings

Hi Nimue,

I've removed the links you added to the books on the David Eddings page - they all redirect to the series they belong to, and a link for each series is present on the page. Wikipedia style guides recommend only linking to a page once per article unless otherwise necessary. Just a heads up! QmunkE 08:03, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Ah. Thank you, QmunkE. Lady Nimue of the Lake 10:31, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Wolf12.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wolf12.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 10:07, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Please note that this image has now been deleted as it was tagged as not having any copyright status for more than seven days. I have removed it from your user page. --TheParanoidOne 22:00, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Maia

I have read Maia—in fact my copy is rather battered. Why do you ask? —JerryFriedman 16:51, 21 September 2006 (UTC), happy to meet another Richard Adams fan.

Sorry, I didn't notice your request to keep conversations in one place. That's fine with me. —JerryFriedman 16:55, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I just read Maia (novel) and I found it intrigueing and fascinating, despite the slightly putting-off thickness. I believe, though, that the cover that is on that library's edition is very much better than any other that I've found on the web!!! Glad to meet a RA fan...at last! Lady Nimue of the Lake 10:06, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I like Maia a lot too. Strangely enough, I don't like the cover that's at the article (which is the one on my copy). Maia's hair and eyes should be more deeply colored, the waterlilies should be yellow, and every time I see it, the petal on her shoulder looks like a bloodless cut—one of those perspective illusions. But I seldom like sf covers, and I haven't looked at any of the others.
I'm glad you're happy with my revisions. I work on novel articles once in a while, but there are so many things that need doing at Wikipedia (not to mention the rest of my life) and so many that I'm interested in that I don't feel like joining the project. —JerryFriedman 15:43, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

No worries, Jerry. Just giving you an invitation since you've done really good work already! Lady Nimue of the Lake 01:58, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Nimue.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Nimue.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Continuing discussion re:encyclopedias, etc. (from Talk:Solo Violin Partita No. 2 (Bach))

Just to reply to your last lengthy entry there: while you are obviously engaged on this issue, and have found flaws with the materials used by your teachers, this doesn't negate my point, which is that students at your level should be reading and not writing encyclopedias (as well as other pedagogical materials). This is not to say that you're not one smart cookie, not to deny your apparent passion, nor to say that you ought to be satisfied with the books you're forced to put up with by the "old farts". But I'm sure you can see, if you think about it, that most 15-year-olds are in no way qualified to write such materials, bright as they may be. But they certainly ought to be listened to, which, as you know, doesn't always happen. On that we agree. +ILike2BeAnonymous 16:59, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Point - most fifteen-year-olds. And that is interesting because I have a friend who just recently published her own textbook for Year Sevens - she's sixteen, by the way, under a different name. Certainly, I agree with you that I shouldn't try writing a whole encyclopaedia, but I still contribute. Not able to do does not mean 'do not try/help'. That's that's why my friends and I got angry. Just as several nosy questions (you don't have to answer), how old are you? Where do you live? What's your first name (so I don't have to type your username all over)? Lady Nimue of the Lake 08:14, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Hmm, sorry, but I've never read anything by Anne Bishop, so I don't think I could be much help. I think I've got too many Wikitasks going on as it is, in any case. Good luck, though. - Runch 14:33, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

As a punishment, tell me whether the trilogy 'memory, sorrow and thorn' are good, please! =] Lady Nimue of the Lake 03:53, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
That's an interesting question. That's a trilogy that I was glad I had read once I finished it, but I didn't always enjoy while I was reading it. It literally took me about 1600 pages before I can truthfully say that I got "into" the books. It's main problem is that the series is just so long...there's enough meat for maybe about 1800 pages, but the series drags to nearly 3000.
All in all, if you don't have anything else on your shelves, I'd say it's worth reading. Just be warned, it is very slow paced, and you might find yourself wondering 300 pages into the first novel, "Has anything really happened?". At the end of it all, you may have fond memories of this saga, but you probably won't find yourself ever re-reading it. - Runch 16:23, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, yes, I tried the trilogy and I sort of gave up after a hundred pages. Just absolutely nothing was happening. Now that you mention it, I might as well try again. Lady Nimue of the Lake 02:12, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:What I am reading at the moment

Hi Nimue, I realise that at the moment you have four different entries at Wikipedia:What I am reading at the moment. Do you think you could put all those titles into one longer entry or maybe even delete some of the books you finished some time ago? I'm trying to clean up that page a bit. Best wishes, 21:15, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. It's all finished now. Salutations, Nimue

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Maia.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:Maia.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Song_in_the_silence.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Song_in_the_silence.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 23:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
