[edit] RE: References needed

Some of the biographical information for Lady Paula is only web-sourced via the "commercial link" previous deleted. Some of the "original research" is cooberated by google/blog searches, but no mainstream news sites.

Please advise on the best way to source this under wiki custom.

Thanks for your help, especially with the formatting. BillyCalhoun 22:50, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

It will be difficult for this article to remain without verifiable sources. This might help - WP:VERIFY. Please see WP:SPAM and WP:EL for the external link policies. Do you have any printed sources (outside of the bookstore link) that you could cite? Thanks, Postoak 23:02, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Please also see, specifically, Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. This is an important Wikipedia policy. --Evb-wiki 23:43, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
I cannot seem to find anything online that would support the "Career in journalism" claims. Postoak 23:08, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
How about citing the book itself, for the biography part, without linking to the website?

This would seem to be clearly within the verifiable sources guidelines you pointed me to, as it is a published work. Otherwise, I think we arrive at a subjective decision to prohibit an entry on a notable Houstonian, which would be unfortunate. Even if some of the content must be reduced until further sourcing, I'd prefer to see a smaller article than a total deletion of real information. Thanks. BillyCalhoun 23:28, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Because the book is self-published [1], I'm not sure how reliable the bio notes will be. --Evb-wiki 23:34, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
Respectfully speaking, I cannot find any indication that she is a notable Houstonian. I wish I could find verification of notability. Postoak 23:39, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Woah bro. Dorrance is the publisher companies website. It isnt just a commercial bookstore. Dorrance does specializing in African-American authors like Lady Paula Merry and others.[2] Even thogh its got commercialized orientation to sell African-American authors they still show those authors are real. Notable to "white folks" is different than notable to people of color. Because Mrs. Merry is a person of color and she writes to our children she's notable for Black publishers and people of color even if the white booksellers don't. The link isn't about selling books - it's about a children's author who is doing a lot of good with a message of hope for our people in our community. You see what I'm saying? -- KwabenaShabazz 01:30, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

KwabenaShabazz, I assure you my concern has nothing to do with the race of this article's subject. The external link provided lists the book for sale at $8.00 per copy. It sounds like a commercial site. It is also a self-publishing assist site. The article should have a more reliable source per WP:SPAM, WP:EL and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Of course, I've seen worse. I'm satisfied with keeping it (for now), with the hope that it will be expanded and more reliable sources can be provided. Especially in light of the several editors who wish to keep it. (btw: Has her book been reviewed anywhere?) Anyway, see ya around. --Evb-wiki 02:11, 7 May 2007 (UTC) -ps: See this.
The external link is a clear violation of WP:EL which specifically states (where discussing links to avoid): "Links to sites that primarily exist to sell products or services. For example, instead of linking to a commercial bookstore site, use the "ISBN" linking format, giving readers an opportunity to search a wide variety of free and non-free book sources." Postoak 04:08, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
OK, I added a "Further reading" section with an ISBN link. This should work. Postoak 06:57, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
I was searching the web for some additional references and came across this [3]. Apparently leaflets were found in downtown Houston with Lady Paula Merry discussing her dislike for Cajuns. Could this be the same Lady Paula Merry in this article? Gee, I hope not. Postoak 08:05, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Wow; this article requires footnotes AND photographs! Its absolutely hilarious how you guys allow entire articles to go unsourced as long as the content fits your own POV, and yet obsess over the fact bases for minor subjects with which your background leaves you unframiliar.De orco 09:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)

While you're laughing, please read WP:Verify#Burden of evidence. In the meantime, I will remove the unreferenced claims. Postoak 21:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
