[edit] The Founder

The school website claims that Lady Eleanor Holles was a daughter of the 2nd Earl of Clare, but no such daughter is listed at his article. The Holles pedigree shows an Eleanor (or Eleanore) Holles to have been a sister of the 2nd Earl of Clare and daughter of the 1st Earl, but she died in 1681 as Countess of Tyrconnel (having married Oliver Fitzwilliam), so if it was her will, it took 30 years to get the school up and running.

Lady Eleanor's executrix was Mistress Anne Watson [1]; this and her name might suggest that she was either unmarried or the widow of a male Holles.
