[edit] Gilmour?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Lady Caroline Gilmore, sponsor of HMS Cardiff is Lady Caroline Gilmour, daughter of Walter Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 8th Duke of Buccleuch and wife of Ian Gilmour, Baron Gilmour of Craigmillar. This ebay item pictured here, says Gilmour, instead of Gilmore. I can't prove it, but it seems likely that Lady Caroline Gilmour, daughter of Walter Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 8th Duke of Buccleuch and wife of Ian Gilmour, Baron Gilmour of Craigmillar would be of sufficient stature to sponsor a Royal Navy ship. --Dual Freq (talk) 02:27, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree, but what should we do about it? Ryan4314 (talk) 11:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
I thought it might help to focus a search for more details on the subject of this article and for the HMS Cardiff article. It would help establish notability for this article as well. I made a brief attempt to find more info on the ship's launch, with no luck. Google searches for Lady Caroline Gilmour or Gilmore both produce the same results and it appears that Gilmour == Gilmore to Google. The ebay item from 1989 is signed by Cardiff's commanding officer at the time and does say Gilmour. Assuming the ebay item is not faked, the article's should be updated to spell it Gilmour and this article should note the connections to the other two wikipedia articles about her husband and father. How certain / reliable are the sources for the spelling Gilmore? It would be better if there was a book or other source that went into a bit more detail. --Dual Freq (talk) 21:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
I put a reflist on the article, so u can check it out. Also here's a link to all the refs I found, Gilmore might be in some of them (I know a put a "Gilmore" note next to at least one") Ryan4314 (talk) 00:48, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, we may never know for sure without a program, or other document from the launching ceremony. I looked at those web links and didn't find too much. I always like to add a couple words about the ship's sponsor to ship articles since they are usually connected somehow to the namesake, or famous in some way beyond the ship. It looks like we won't be able to know for sure, but I think its likely to be Gilmour based on the ebay thing above. I don't think I can help any more than that. Maybe you'll find something sometime later or a former sailor will see this and be able to prove or disprove it. --Dual Freq (talk) 01:56, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Was just thinking, shall we just bloody move the article to Gilmour anyway? What's the worst that can happen, and who can dispute it? Ryan4314 (talk) 21:41, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
I wouldn't object, the post marked ebay image is proof enough I think. From there it doesn't take too much of a leap to connect her to Walter Montagu-Douglas-Scott, 8th Duke of Buccleuch and Ian Gilmour, Baron Gilmour of Craigmillar. It would make sense for Lady Caroline Gilmour to be the one who christened Cardiff. --Dual Freq (talk) 22:51, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
