Насколько корректно переводить названия георграфических объектов дословно? и если так правильней (не могу найти карту с англоязычными названиями), то почему вы не исправили названия в самой статье, а только в названии и фотографиях?--FearChild 10:29, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Compare this and this. As per WP:NC, we use the most common name in English. By the way, if you list some references, I will nominate this entry for DYK. Best, Ghirla-трёп- 10:37, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Now I see, thanks. So, I will change all "Ladozhsky Canal", "Staroladozhsky Canal", "Novoladoghskiy Canal" to Ladoga Canal, Old Ladoga Canal and New Ladoga Canal, right? Or this differences of names in article is acceptable? P.S what kind of references? Sources In English?--FearChild 10:52, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "the canals were neglected"
I am afraid that specifically for the canals this is not the case. They were neglected as new types of vessels were able to cope Ladoga waves and were too large for the canal. Volga-Baltic waterway is still very important, and, as far as I know, more efficient than the railways. Colchicum 12:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Muennich
I would like to argue here that not Skornyakov-Pisarev and his German experts were arrested, but that only Skornyakov-Pisarev was... The German engineer count von Münnich took over the management of the building site up to successful completion of the canal. He was the German expert and lockkeeper who built definitively the canal - against all intrigues of Menshikov (a friend of Skornyakov-Pisarev). 84.185.102.130 17:57, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
