A note on sources here: some of this came from Grove, and some of it (including the Bryars quote) came from another book which I think was Contemporary Composers, ed. Brian Morton, Pamela Collins (London, St James Press, 1992). I'm not sure enough that this was the source to add it to the article though (I made the notes a good while ago, and didn't record what source I'd used at the time), but I'm going to check if I can (if somebody else is in a position to check that it contains the quote, that would be great, of course). --Camembert
