Lady on a Train
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lady on a Train is a 1945 black-and-white comedy shot in film noir style. The film, starring Deanna Durbin, was directed by Durbin's future third husband Charles David. The film's music score was by Miklós Rózsa. Durbin sings the standards "Silent Night" and "Night and Day." The comedy, musical and film noir seems to be a spoof on Cornell Woolrich mystery stories that were popular at the time. Future cowboy star Lash La Rue has a small part playing a waiter at the Circus Club.
The film was based upon a story by Leslie Charteris, the half Chinese-half English author best known for creating Simon Templar, aka The Saint. Charteris wrote a novelization of the film that was released at the same time as movie; this was one of only a few non-Saint books published by the prolific author.
[edit] Plot
Debutante Nikki Collins happens to witness a murder in a building while passing by on a train. Nikki goes to the police, but is frustrated to find that no one believes her. The police think that her story is the product of an overactive imagination. Nikki then approaches mystery writer Wayne Morgan (David Bruce) to help solve the mystery.
