As of the 2005-06 school year, the high school had 671 students and 46.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), the school had a student-teacher ratio of 14.4. There were 114 students in 7th grade, 110 students in 8th grade, 117 students in 9th grade, 106 students in 10th grade, 114 students in 11th grade, 110 students in 12th grade and no ungraded students[1]

The field hockey team won the 1985 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class AA State Championship, defeating East Pennsboro High School 3-0 in the tournament final game played at Shippensburg . The school also has a rich history in football, with winning seven district 2 class A titles and nine lackawanna league championships, in the past eleven years under Coach Jeff Wasilchak..[2]

There has been significant debate over the School's dress code and, in May 2007, the School Board decided that students could wear clothing with logos bearing the name of a manufacturer or a Lackawanna Trail insignia and would be allowed to wear multi-colored or stripped shirts with collars, and well maintained solid colored pants, including jeans.[3] [4]

- Keith Gavin, amateur wrestler, University of Pittsburgh, 2008 NCAA Champion at 174 lbs. Runner-up in 2007 NCAA Championships.[5]
- Jim Saxton (Hugh James Saxton), a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, graduated from Lackawanna Trail High School in 1961.[6]
- Don Sherwood Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, who represented the 10th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, from 1999 to 2007.[7]
