[edit] Licensing
This image is of a drawing, painting, print, or other two-dimensional work of art, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the artist who produced the image, the person who commissioned the work, or the heirs thereof. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of works of art
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
[edit] Fair use rationale
- There is no free visual portrayal of Lachrymose leech (a fictional annelid created by Lemony Snicket) in existence. Any created version would not fulfill the encyclopedic use of this image, as it would not further anyone's understanding of the creature in question.
- The use of this image does not decrease the opportunity for sale of the book from which it comes (The Wide WIndow) since 1) the book is not about the Lachrymose leech, and 2) the image does not reveal any consequential knowledge as to the book's contents.
- The use of this image contributes significantly to the article, since the section to which it belongs deals directly with the creature portrayed in the image.
