Talk:Labatt Park
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I completed a well-researched, comprehensive history of Labatt Memorial Park and a history of the London Tecumsehs for the City of London's Labatt 150 Reunion souvenir program -- an event which was held on July 23, 2005, at the park.
I'll dig these e-files out and add some stuff that is important.
Also, one can't talk about Tecumseh Park-Labatt Park without mentioning catcher George Mooney Gibson who went on to win the World Series with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1909. Tecumseh Park was Mooney's home park, a stone's throw away from where he grew up in west London. -- Barry A. Wells, co-founder, Friends of Labatt Park.

[edit] Failed GA
As a currently extant stadium in a notable Western city, I would be surprised if no photographs could be found; some historic ones (some would be PD be now - even better!) would tie in well with the history section too. That would add significantly to the article. The "disambig" with the failed Montreal Expos plan should probably be at the top and in italics, so I've moved it. The quote in green doesn't look great at the moment - it would probably be better just to italicise and indent it. Overall though, this article is looking pretty good. Come back to GA noms with a bunch of images (hopefully some historical) and a prettier way of writing that quote and it would be a really strong candidate. Good luck! :) TheGrappler 20:32, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Plenty of Visuals
There's scores of visuals available. I have dozens in my personal possession, plus there's plenty in the public domain (Archives of Canada) that are suitable. I, however, don't know how to upload these visuals onto the Labatt Park page(s) on Wikipedia. Yes, I've read the "instructions," but it's all Greek to me. Barry Wells 21:21, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Edit by Adam Bishop
I disagree with Adam Bishop's most recent removal of the information at the bottom of the Labatt Park article. I have left a message on his Talk page advising that he reconsider his edit or that his edit be mediated or arbitrated by an objective third party. Barry Wells 22:04, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- See here though. I interpret this to mean contact info is not encyclopedic. Adam Bishop 22:22, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

- Successfully resolved, taking Adam Bishop's direction. Barry Wells 22:54, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Some concerns
Barry, while your contributions are always outstanding and admirable, there are parts of this article that strike me as unnecessary or unencyclopedic. It often reads like a newspaper article or the script of a documentary, which is understandable since you wrote it, but it sounds odd here. Most of the article seems like a history of baseball in London, rather than a history of Labatt Park itself. I think a lot of the text here would be better off in articles about the teams, leagues, and individual players. Adam Bishop 17:53, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Adam, just came across your above comment. I'll review your comments and the article. Thanks. Barry Wells 16:12, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

- Adam, given the length of the Labatt Park article and your concerns, what I'll endeavour to do in the weeks ahead is slide some of the content on Labatt Park over to other related pages, such as the London Tecumsehs, London Majors, Roy McKay, Frank Colman etc. While the history of baseball in London is definitely joined at the hip with the history of Labatt Park, since I've started creating Labatt Park/ local baseball-related pages, some of the content can definitely be moved. I'm tied up this weekend with Doors Open in London, but I'll try and start moving the stuff around next week and beyond as time permits. Barry Wells 23:47, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Londonflag.PNG
Image:Londonflag.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:04, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
