[edit] Breakdown by network type

Is it really nessicary to break the stations down by newtoek type, imo no. Not only does it add uneeded bulk to the box, it makes it extremely more difficult to navigate, and breaks what i belive is the usage of the nav box, which is to navigate between the channles by nuber or frequency not by programming. Information of the programming should be included in the articles, not the box, or in a seperat article. I plan on reverting the changes witin the nex 24hours, if some one ca not convincwe me to do other wise. --Boothy443 | trácht ar 00:11, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

The new version was HUGE and UGLY! I reverted to the smaller version, plus deleted the red-linked city of LA-only cable stations. BlankVerse 09:22, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Well, looks like CoolKatt number 99999 reverted your revert (sans cable channels). I'm not gonna start a revert war, but I'll say on the record whoever wants to change it back to the small version has my support. - Hinto 21:40, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Well, it came back in much larger form, also by CoolKatt number 99999, and with formatting that didn't handle bolding right. I have reverted back to February 25. --WCQuidditch 00:00, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Seperate templates

I have called for another solution to the network type sort problem: break the stations into 5 different templates as I proposed here: User:CoolKatt number 99999/Sandbox. Yes, that is my custom sandbox. The main LA TV template would then provide links to the 5 station templates. The main template and the station type template would be on the station article, for example, KCBS-TV would have the Major Network Affiliates template and the main template. I like it. this is just insane. Double for Arizona's LA TV Wannabe-template. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 21:18, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, that or split it into local and outlying-areas, like the rest of the templates... RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 21:29, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
I was actually thinking along those same lines. Since the Los Angeles TV market is such a large and spread-out area with lots of TV stations, I was thinking that we could separate them into their own counties of license, i.e. the Los Angeles County-based stations in one portion, the Orange County ones in another, Ventura, Inland Empire, and so on. However, you do have several cases of where a station is licensed to one city, but operates in another city in a neighboring county. For example, KJLA is licensed to Ventura, but originates from Los Angeles, and you have KFTR, licensed to Ontario (San Bernardino County), but also originates from Los Angeles.ShawnHill 18:26, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
I don't agree with separating the stations by county; the geographically-huge Los Angeles DMA, for all intents and purposes, is one single market, and most of the stations are available in all areas of that DMA, at least by cable or satellite, if not over-the-air. However, I do have a couple of suggestions, below, to help de-clutter this template. DHowell 21:37, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cluttered

Does anyone else think this template is way too cluttered? I have a couple of suggestions for improvement:

  • Move the low-powered stations to a separate section.
  • Remove the digital subchannel information, especially those that are part of the network affiliation (e.g. the multiple TBN subchannels); or, put the digital subchannel information in the "Local digital television channels" section.

Of course we'll have to redo it when the analog switch-off occurs, but we can worry about that then. DHowell 21:33, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't see any problem with that. I would agree that you can put the digital subchannels into their own section in the template, so at least looks more streamlined. ShawnHill 16:23, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
