The La Colonia Youth Boxing Club is a boxing gym located on 1st street in Oxnard, California. It has produced such notable fighters as Fernando Vargas, Roberto Garcia and Victor Ortiz. The gym is a place where members of the community can train and box. The gym is complete with punching bags, workout machines, lockers, bathrooms, weight sets, speed bags, a ring, and more. The owners and trainers of the gym take young boxing athletes to amateur fights in Southern California to compete against other use the gym. Among those, Robert Garcia, a former world champion trains young boxers there. Fernando Vargas, who grew up South Oxnard, but traveled to La Colonia to train as a teenager, is still a regular fixture there. Victor Ortiz, one of boxing's most talented young prospects also now trains at the gym after moving to Oxnard from Garden City. Daniel Cervantes is also a fighter who came from the gym. He is an up and coming prospect. Also, Mia St. John also trains there and is trained by Roberto Garcia.
