La Tabatière, Quebec
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
La Tabatière is a small isolated fishing village in Quebec on the Lower North Shore of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence, near the border with Labrador. The village can be reached via a regular weekly ferry service, or La Tabatiere Airport.
The village is part of the municipality of Gros-Mécatina.
I became familiar with La Tabatiere in December of 1957, when I made a forced landing on an island offshore from the village. The RCAF located me and villagers came out and rescued me from the island, taking me back to their village and putting me up for almost a week, until I could get space on a plane out of there. I remember the majority of the residents being Robertsons, and will always remember their kindness and hospitality. Michael Rutty
