La Serena, Spain

La Serena is a historical territory of 282000 ha located in the east of Extremadura, Spain, in the province of Badajoz. It is a region with plain lands, that grow fine grass where graze the merino sheep that produce the finest and softest wool and whose milk yields a well known cheese denominated La Serena cheese, which is a protected product by its origin.
The climate is continental, with strong fluctuations.
The population of the territory is around 80,000 inhabitants. The historical territory have two capitals: Villanueva de la Serena and Castuera.
