From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

La Salle High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Miami, Florida. It is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Miami and located between Mercy Hospital and Vizcaya on South Bayshore Drive in Coconut Grove.

[edit] Background

La Salle High School was established in 1958 by the Sisters of St. Joseph. It was opened under the name Immaculata High School, an all girl school. The Archdiocese of Miami later combined Immaculata and a neighoring high school, La Salle High School, an all boy school. For a period it was known as Immaculata-LaSalle High School. The name was later changed toLa Salle High School over concerns that the name was too long. Recently, alumni from Immaculata High School began voicing their fear that they had been abandoned by their school. In 2007 the title Immaculata was restored to the school's name by Archbishop John C. Favalora and Sr. Pat Roche, FMA. Immaculata-La Salle is now run by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco, also known as Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. [1]
