La Porte is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States. The population was 43 at the 2000 census.

La Porte is located at 39°40′55″N, 120°59′5″W (39.681908, -120.984732)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.5 square miles (11.6 km²), all of it land.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 43 people, 28 households, and 12 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 9.6 people per square mile (3.7/km²). There were 131 housing units at an average density of 29.2/sq mi (11.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.35% White, 2.33% Native American, and 2.33% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 28 households out of which 3.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.3% were married couples living together, and 53.6% were non-families. 50.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 25.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.54 and the average family size was 2.08.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 4.7% under the age of 18, 2.3% from 18 to 24, 2.3% from 25 to 44, 53.5% from 45 to 64, and 37.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 60 years. For every 100 females there were 186.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 173.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $30,781, and the median income for a family was $11,250. Males had a median income of $12,083 versus $0 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $18,258. There were 100.0% of families and 65.0% of the population living below the poverty line, including 100.0% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.

Completed in 1961, the nearby rock-fill reservoir Little Grass Valley is a popular summer water sports area. Nearby hiking and OHV trails also surround the lake.

In the state legislature La Porte is located in the 1st Senate District, represented by Republican Dave Cox, and in the 3rd Assembly District, represented by Republican Rick Keene. Federally, La Porte is located in California's 4th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +11[3] and is represented by Republican John Doolittle.

About 12 miles outside La Porte via the Port Wine Ridge Road lies the remains of the former mining town Howland Flat. Another few miles along the Poker flat OHV trail is the former town of Poker Flat, where the 1886 Scott Home still stands as one of the few remaining structures.
