La Manche, Newfoundland and Labrador
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
La Manche is a coastal community in the southeast portion of the island of Newfoundland between Cape Broyle and Burnt Cove that was resettled after a major storm on January 28, 1966. The resulting storm wiped away a large portion of the community and caused the remaining residents to resettled shortly thereafter. This community was first settled in the 1840's by George Melvin. Prior to being settled La Manche served as seasonal fishing grounds for fishermen from Newfoundland, England and France.
