[edit] History

The title of vidame of Chartres was, under the Ancien Régime, attached to the lands of Ferté-Arnault (also called la Ferté-Vidame). The most famous men to bear that title were Louis de Rouvroy, duc de Saint-Simon and the English captain Thomas de Scales. Its chateau is now in ruins.
