La Esperanza, Honduras

La Esperanza is a municipality in the Honduran department of Intibucá and the capital city of the department.
Situated in the high forests of western Honduras, La Esperanza has the coolest climate of all Honduras' cities. In actuality, La Esperanza and Intibuca are neighboring cities with intertwining boundaries. The joint cities ofalities. The town is a central trading place for the Lenca communities who live in the surrounding mountains. Each year, the people of La Esperanza and Intibuca have a potato festival and crown a "Potato Queen." The 2007 "Potato Queen" Was Marcos Molina alias Moloplay
The nearby village of San Juan is known for its coffee production and for its proximity to Erandique home to the ancient fortress of Lempira, an indigenous Honduran hero who fought against the Spanish.
A paved highway connects La Esperanza with the San Pedro Sula to Tegucigalpa highway near the town of Siguatepeque. There are frequent buses along this route. An unpaved, seldom traveled highway connects La Esperanza with San Juan and on to the colonial town of Gracias.
