The L Boat is a type of racing boat designed by Luedke in Detroit. They were of wood construction with very limited freeboard. They were 26 feet long and were known to leak. They were mainsail driven boats with relatively small Jibs and a 3/4s rig.
The first 39-40 were built by Luedke, Remi DeBlaere built the last 11. The last hulls were # 50 and 51. They were raced One-Design in Detroit until the class fell apart in the early 70s due to the rise of fiberglass in ship construction. The Sally K (Hull # 30) is the last remaining L Boat in Detroit.
They mostly raced out of Bayview Yacht Club
