L.A. Boyz
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
L.A. Boyz was a Taiwanese pop/rap group comprised of brothers Jeff Huang (黃立成, Huang Licheng) and Stanley Huang (黃立行, Huang Lixing), and their cousin Steven Lin. The three would adopt thick Taiwanese accents when speaking Mandarin, which endeared them to local fans, although eventually it was revealed that the older brother, Jeff Huang, was born in Huwei Township in Taiwan's Yunlin County but raised in Los Angeles, while younger brother, Stanley Huang, and cousin, Steven Lin, were both born and raised in Los Angeles. They brought American Hip-hop culture back to Taiwan. The group mixed elements of American-style pop with traditional Taiwanese music, and was a major phenomenon for several years. Eventually the band split; Jeff Huang returned to America and started an internet company that later merged with a Japanese software company in a 60 million dollar deal before once again returning to Taiwan and fronting hip-hop group Machi; brother Stanley went on to establish a successful solo career, winning Best Mandarin Male Singer in the 2005 Golden Melody Awards (the Chinese music world's Grammys); Lin returned to California becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
