Lębork-Bytów Land

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lębork-Bytów Land (Polish: ziemia lęborsko-bytowska, German: Länder Lauenburg und Bütow) is a historical ziemia region in Pomerania, Poland. Composed of two smaller regions centered around towns of Bytów (Bütow) and Lębork (Lauenburg i. Pom.), it was on the western periphery of Pomerelia.

In the 14th century it fell under the influence of the Teutonic Order, later was controlled by Dukes of Pomerania, as a fiefdom of Poland. After the childless death of Bogislaw XIV, Duke of Pomerania in 1637 it became part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, but after Treaty of Bydgoszcz (Bromberg) of 1657 it was taken over by Brandenburg-Prussia, as the easternmost part of the Province of Pomerania. It was officially a Polish fiefdom till 1772[citation needed], but Polish kings never had a significant control over its affairs. After the territorial changes of Poland after World War II in 1945, it is now part of Poland.
