Kyraocity aka Kyra D Gaunt, Ph.D. I am a published author on hip-hop as music relative to the study of race and gender. My book The Games Black Girls Play: Learning the Ropes from Double-Dutch to Hip-hop was a co-winner of the 2007 Alan Merriam Prize for best book in the field from the Society for Ethnomusicology. I've lectured nationally and internationally on hip-hop culture and gender. I have also been on a number of talk shows particularly on radio including BBC Radio 4, WNYC-FM, WBAI-FM and more.
